The Peace Bridge
A symbol of the new city
The Derry Peace Bridge over the River Foyle was designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects in London and bridges a 400-year-old physical and political gap between the Nationalist Bogside and the Unionist Waterside, once a bitterly divided community.
When talking the short but idyllic walk across the bridge, you may find it hard to believe the stories of the cities troubled past however a sign that things have changed comes with every visitor to the city and every footstep across the idyllic bridge. Visitors really have an opportunity to be part of this change as well as enjoying the exceptional beauty of the surroundings.
There is no charge to walk across the bridge and the bridge also links to St Columbs Park and longer walks or cycles along the banks of the river Foyle.
